Our first ever apprentice cheese maker, Phil Farndon, is now fully fledged, having simultaneously worked with us for a year, and studied at Duchy College for his Level 2 FDQ in Dairy Industry Skills. He enjoyed it so much, he’s now studying for a Foundation Degree in Food Studies, dividing his time with three days here at the dairy and two at college. So we don’t lose him (which is good because he’s an excellent worker and fast learner) and he gets to continue to build his CV.

And we’re delighted to be now training up a new apprentice, this time in Maintenance Engineering. Chris Clements is studying for a Level 3 BTec at Cornwall College, as well as gaining invaluable hands-on experience four days a week here at Lynher Dairies. As he says, “it’s an alternative route to a degree, learning more on the job rather than going to University. And you are earning at the same time, which is a bonus!”

If you too are interested in honing the skills needed in the food industry, please do get in touch by emailing dairy manager Dane Hopkins on DHopkins@Lynherdairies.co.uk phil apprentice
